Charon is Pluto’s largest moon and nearly half its size. Together they orbit a point between them, which is why they are often considered an almost double-planet system. The surface of Charon is composed of ice and rock, marked by ancient fractures and frozen plains. Unlike Pluto, Charon appears more gray in color due to the absence of methane ice on its surface. This painting is inspired by an infrared image from NASA’s New Horizons mission.
