During a lunar eclipse, the Moon moves into the shadow of the Earth. Yet we still see it turn a reddish color. This happens because sunlight is bent through the Earth’s atmosphere: blue light is scattered, while red light reaches the Moon. A simple physical process with a grand visual effect. This painting is inspired by this phenomenon.
