Wouter van der Velde

Clouds gather in my head and come out again on the canvas

Wouter van der Velde trained as a visual artist at the Vrije Tekenacademie in Amsterdam. After working as a designer at various advertising agencies, he picked up his passion for painting cloudy skies again. ‘When I’m outside or walking along the beach, I often look up. There’s always something special happening up there. I capture that with my camera because it’s often too beautiful to let it pass by.’ He calls his work the imagination of a landscape. Because that’s what it is. There must be enough space for the viewer to discover. His cloudy skies with their play of light and shadow are impressive. The open horizon with the dash of red are characteristic of him.
