Jan Henrik Dolsma

I find the translation from paint to illusion to be something magical.

Jan Hendrik Dolsma is a passionate artist who expresses his love for the Wadden Sea through paint. In his paintings he captures the dynamics of the landscape, in which the sky is always central, together with subtle play of light. Reflections in the water or on the sand often play a role, which gives his work an extra dimension. Each painting depicts a unique moment and connects the viewer with the Wadden Sea. He sings the praises of space, especially with sunlight. And very cunningly, because the sun itself is never visible. It always hangs behind a cloud or out of frame. Once you realize what Dolsma manages to do despite this extremely limited range of possibilities, it makes his work all the more admirable.
